Cyberbullying as an articulating element of the new digital violence: methods and contexts

Abstract

Social networks have brought a social and

cultural revolution, generating very positive

social dynamics. But it has also involved a

new variant of crimes related to the physical,

psychological and intelectual integrity of

individuals. Through this article, it is intended

to highlight what this series of criminal

behaviors based on cyberbullying. The word

cyberbullying is used in a general way to define

a series of practices and more specific

tan those of this term. This research seeks

to conceptualize and distinguish the various

forms of abuse and aggression such as cyberbullying,

sexual cyberbullying, grooming

or cyberstalking and others, which will be defined

throughout this text as a starting point

to identify and try to tackle them. The methodology

used is exploratory-descriptive.

Miguel Angel Pérez-Gómez, University of Sevilla

Miguel A. Pérez-Gómez has a degree and PhD in Audiovisual Communication from the University of Seville where he teaches in the Department of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising. She belongs to the ADMIRA Research Group (SEJ-496: Media Analysis, Images and Audiovisual Stories in its History for Social Change). His research focuses on participatory culture, fandom, Japanese popular culture, Spanish fantastic cinema, and comics. He has also collaborated in publications such as Rock de Lux and the online magazine Entrecómics, and currently continues to write about the 9th art on his blog El lector bicéfalo. 

Carmen Echazarreta Soler, University of Girona

Professor of Communication at the University of Girona. PhD in Communication from the University of Barcelona (2002) and a degree in Communication (1990), East Asian Studies (2006) and Prehistory and Ancient History. She is currently Vice Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Communication.

Meritxell Audebert Sánchez, University of Girona

Graduated in Audiovisual Communication from the University of Vic and current student of Advertising and Public Relations at the University of Girona. He has carried out different research works on gender inequality, workshops on cyberbullying and artistic works on the plasticity of bodies ("The body speaks for me", available at https://www.cinemagender.com/las-mariconos).

Cristina Sánchez Miret, University of Girona

PhD in Sociology and Director of the Business Department of the University of Girona. Member of the working group promoting the UdG 2030 Strategic Plan, La Suma d'Intel·ligències. Specialized in research on social inequality related to gender, age, social class and lifestyle, and citizen participation, topics in which she has collaborated and collaborates in several national and international research projects.
