Abstract

The aim of this article is to propose a vision of the value that John Ruskin attributed to art and images. To this end, more than his facet as an art critic, I will consider his work as an amateur artist and art teacher in order to present the intrinsic values of the works produced by the classic arts (for the purposes of this text: painting and drawing). I will also discuss the value and use that Ruskin attributed to photography, a medium that was a child of the 19th century and was widely discussed as belonging to the arts. In doing this, I will briefly outline some of the pillars of his aesthetic and critical theory, indiscernibly woven into his life goals and his work as a drawing teacher, together with his considerations of photography.
