The chinese communicative ecosystem: From the kiosk to the digital panopticon

Abstract

The observation of the specific features of the Chinese communication landscape in the fields of the written press, television and networks reveals a scenario mearked by the paradoxes of the Chinese system, where a market economy with a strong state component coexists, with a Political regime of the Unique Party, in state capitalism or market socialism. This singularity of the Chinese model is reflected in a communication area marked by variable margins of plurality, with an arc of tension between the logic of the business and the political value, with constantly renegotiated borders between society, the profession and the controlling limits imposed. It is a complex process, which is not defined in black and white, with a very strong evolution and dynamism since the end of the seventies.
